Why Medeco is in a different class
Most high-security locks protect against picking. Medeco protects against picking, drilling, and unauthorized key duplication — simultaneously. Its patented keyway design, hardened steel construction, and rotating and elevating pin system make it one of the most attack-resistant cylinders on the market.
It's a common choice for co-op entry doors, brownstone front doors, and commercial properties on the Upper West Side where security and key control are both priorities. We carry deadbolts, cylinders, and padlocks from the full Medeco line and have been installing and servicing them in NYC buildings for decades.
What makes Medeco different
Pick resistance
Rotating and elevating pin system requires precise key cuts at multiple angles — making conventional picking techniques ineffective.
Drill resistance
Hardened steel inserts throughout the cylinder body defeat carbide drill bits — a common attack vector on standard locks.
Key control
Patented keyways mean blanks are only available to authorized dealers — preventing unauthorized duplication at hardware stores or generic key shops.
Medeco services we offer
Key duplication
Medeco keys require authorized blanks and precise cutting. We stock genuine Medeco-compatible blanks for both Biaxial and original keyway profiles.
Lock installation
Medeco deadbolts, cylinders, and padlocks installed correctly — proper alignment, correct strike, full engagement of all security elements from day one.
Rekeying
Changing occupants or retiring old keys? We rekey Medeco cylinders to a new key profile without replacing the hardware — maintaining full key control throughout.
Maintenance & repair
Medeco cylinders that feel stiff, sluggish, or aren't engaging cleanly — we clean, lubricate, and retune to restore full performance.
Medeco hardware we carry
We stock a selection of Medeco hardware in-store and can order the full product line. Common items include single and double cylinder deadbolts in standard and high-security configurations, replacement cylinders for retrofitting into existing door hardware, mortise cylinders for prewar NYC door preparations, and padlocks for storage units, gates, and commercial applications.
Not sure which Medeco product is right for your door? Bring your key or describe your setup — we'll identify the configuration and recommend the right hardware on the spot.
Medeco key control — what it means in practice
When you install a Medeco lock, you're not just buying a more secure cylinder — you're buying a controlled key system. Medeco keys can only be duplicated by authorized dealers who verify the key owner's authorization before cutting. This means that even if someone gets hold of your key temporarily, they can't simply walk into a hardware store and get a copy made.
We maintain proper Medeco authorization records for every key we cut. If you're upgrading from a standard lock and want to understand how key control works in practice, call us — we'll walk you through it before any purchase is made.
